Parables
Mk 5:13-20 Parable of the Sower
3. Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: 4. And it came to pass, as he
sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. 5. And
some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up,
because it had no depth of earth:
6. But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
7. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no
fruit. 8. And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased;
and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred. 9. And he said unto
them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 10. And when he was alone, they that were
about him with the twelve asked of him the parable. 11. And he said unto them, Unto you it
is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all
these things are done in parables: 12. That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and
hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and
their sins should be forgiven them. 13. And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable?
and how then will ye know all parables? 14. The sower soweth the word. 15. And these are
they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh
immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16. And these are
they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word,
immediately receive it with gladness; 17. And have no root in themselves, and so endure
but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake,
immediately they are offended. 18. And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as
hear the word, 19. And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the
lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. 20. And
these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and
bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
Lk 6:47-49 - House foundation, work hard to understand the scriptures, not
casually or just going to church
47. Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to
whom he is like: 48. He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the
foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that
house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49. But he that heareth,
and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth;
against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of
that house was great.
Lk 12:16-20 rich man tearing down and building a bigger barn and stops producing
16. And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought
forth plentifully: 17. And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I
have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18. And he said, This will I do: I will pull down
my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19. And I
will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease,
eat, drink, and be merry. 20. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall
be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
Lk 13:6-9 - fig tree, if you dont produce you will be cut down
6. He spake also this parable; a certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and
he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
7. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking
fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? 8. And he
answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and
dung it:
9. And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
Lk 15:4-7 1 lost sheep in 100
4. What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the
ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5.
And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto
them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7. I say unto you, that
likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and
nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Lk 15:8-10 1 lost silver piece of 10
8. Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a
candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9. And when she hath
found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me;
for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in
the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
Lk 15:11-32 prodigal son
11. And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12. And the younger of them said to his
father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them
his living. 13. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took
his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to
be in want.
15. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his
fields to feed swine. 16. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the
swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17. And when he came to himself, he said, How
many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with
hunger! 18. I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned
against heaven, and before thee, 19. And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me
as one of thy hired servants. 20. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was
yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his
neck, and kissed him.
21. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and
am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22. But the father said to his servants, Bring
forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23. And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24. For
this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be
merry.
25. Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he
heard musick and dancing. 26. And he called one of the servants, and asked what these
things meant. 27. And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed
the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. 28. And he was angry, and
would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. 29. And he answering
said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any
time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my
friends: 30. But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with
harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. 31. And he said unto him, Son, thou art
ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 32. It was meet that we should make merry, and
be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
Lk 16:19-31 Rich man and Lazarus
19. There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared
sumptuously every day: 20. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at
his gate, full of sores, 21. And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the
rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22. And it came to pass,
that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man
also died, and was buried; 23. And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and
seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24. And he cried and said, Father
Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in
water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25. But Abraham said, Son,
remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil
things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26. And beside all this, between
us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you
cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27. Then he said, I pray
thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28. For I have
five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of
torment.
29. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30. And
he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be
persuaded, though one rose from the dead.Lk 16:19-31 Rich man and lazarus
Lk 19:12-26 Noble man goes away to receive kingdom and then return
12. He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a
kingdom, and to return. 13. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds,
and said unto them, Occupy till I come. 14. But his citizens hated him, and sent a message
after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. 15. And it came to pass,
that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants
to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every
man had gained by trading. 16. Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained
ten pounds. 17. And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been
faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. 18. And the second came,
saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. 19. And he said likewise to him, Be thou
also over five cities. 20. And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound,
which I have kept laid up in a napkin: 21. For I feared thee, because thou art an austere
man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. 22.
And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou
knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did
not sow: 23. Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I
might have required mine own with usury?
24. And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that
hath ten pounds. 25. (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) 26. For I say
unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even
that he hath shall be taken away from him.
Jn 10:1-5 Parable of the Shepherd
1. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the
sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
2. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3. To him the porter
openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth
them out. 4. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep
follow him: for they know his voice. 5. And a stranger will they not follow, but
will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
Jn 10:11-16 Parable of the good Shepherd
11. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
12. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth
the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and
scattereth the sheep. 13. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth
not for the sheep. 14. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of
mine. 15. As the Father knoweth me, even so I know the Father: and I lay down my
life for the sheep. 16. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them
also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one
shepherd.
Jn 12:24 Parable of the Corn of Wheat
24. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and
die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal
him.
How to Pray
Lk 11:2 When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
Lk 11:3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
Lk 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And
lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
Lk 12:51-53 51. Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but
rather division:
52. For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and
two against three.
53. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the
mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law
against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Lk 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is
